Our Story

Jay and Sara Laster learned of human trafficking in 2015 and could not sit down and stay quiet. Through extensive prayer, building the right relationships, and volunteering with local nonprofits, they are answering the call God has placed upon them to join the other amazing freedom fighters by starting Budding Hope Ministries.

Sara’s fight began after attending a women’s retreat and was given an armband made by survivors. She went home from the conference and soon found herself researching the issue of human trafficking. Once she realized the extent of the suffering and the prevalence around the world she knew she had to do something. Ready and expectant for God to move within her, it wasn’t until the fall of 2017 that things began to stir in her life.

She felt the call for a career change, and a total shift in her perspective, but didn’t quite know where it all would lead. In March 2018 she heard God’s voice loud and clear telling her to “find the lost;” and all of her human trafficking research started flooding back into her heart.

Jay had a different agenda and call on his life during this time and it wouldn’t be until December 2018 that they both realized their missions to helping people were more connected than they originally thought.

It was in January 2019 that they decided to formalize Budding Hope Ministries.
